BRIEF:
Visually communicate a short story selected by Irish writer Nuala Ní Chonchúir and Declan Meade, editor of The Stinging Fly, Ireland’s leading literary magazine.

IDEA:
My short story was ‘Champagne’ by Anton Chekhov -a detailed account of a lonely train conductor’s New Years Eve celebrations (or lack thereof). The theme of the story is ‘how a person can be their own worst enemy’ and ‘being self-destructive in your own life’. To communicate this I chose to use the photo-messaging application, Snapchat. Users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. Users set a time limit for how long recipients can view their Snaps (the range is from 1 to 10 seconds), after which they will be hidden from the recipient’s device and deleted from Snapchats servers. – a self destructive form of communication. To present my solution to this brief I got my peers to add ‘antonchekhov1’ on Snapchat. He upload his ‘story’ to his account which was a documentation of the nights events. The story was self destructive and only lasted 24hours.
